- No Screening Procedures: Schools are strictly prohibited from subjecting children, parents, or guardians to any form of screening, entrance tests, or interviews.
- Age-Appropriate Admission: Children must be admitted to classes appropriate to their age, ensuring they are placed with peers.
- Eligibility & Inclusivity: General: All children aged 6–14 years. Special Needs: Extended eligibility for children aged 6–18 years.
- Free & Local Access: Education, including pre-primary levels, must be provided free of cost within neighborhood schools.

West Bengal RTE Admission 2026-27 Application Procedure
Admission Form Details:
- Admission forms will be available free of cost at all schools and on the official Banglar Shiksha portal (banglarshiksha.gov.in).
- The same form applies to all categories of schools covered under the West Bengal RTE admission process.
Required Documents:
- A self-attested copy of the child’s birth certificate must be submitted along with the application form.
- If the birth certificate is not available at the time of application, a parent/guardian-signed age declaration will be accepted provisionally.
- The original birth certificate must be submitted within six months of admission, as per the RTE Rules 2012.
- To claim reservation benefits, applicants must submit a self-attested copy of the valid reservation certificate issued by the competent authority.
Application Instructions:
- All sections of the application form must be filled out completely and accurately.
Selection Process (West Bengal RTE Admission 2026-27):
- Selection will be conducted through a ‘Draw of Lots’ (random lottery) method.
- The draw will be held within the scheduled dates specified in the official admission calendar.
- Selected candidates must present their original birth certificate and any other documents requested by the school at the time of admission.
- If the birth certificate is unavailable during admission, a six-month grace period is allowed under the Right to Education Act.
- If any selected candidate is rejected by the school management after being included in the admission panel list, the matter must be reported to the district authorities.

Draw of Lots Procedure
- General draw: Conducted among all applicants (irrespective of category) to fill unreserved seats.
- Category-wise draws: From the remaining applicants, separate draws are held for each reserved category (SC/ST/OBC, etc.) to fill reserved seats as per extant government rules.

WB School Admission 2026-27: Inclusive & Special Provisions
Inclusive & Equitable Admission
- Children with Special Needs (CWSN) shall be admitted in such a way that they can complete elementary education by the age of 18 years.
- District Education Officers (SSM) will facilitate admission of out-of-school children. All schools are expected to cooperate.

Automatic Admission in Same Premises
- Class IV students of the Primary School shall be automatically admitted to Class V of the Upper Primary School.
- Class V students shall be automatically admitted to Class VI of the Higher School.
Only after admitting all such eligible students will the remaining seats be filled through the draw of lots process.
