Age Eligibility Criteria for RTE Admission in 2025-26
The minimum age requirements for school admission in entry-level classes vary significantly across different states. The Central Government has directed all states to adhere to a standardized age limit: a minimum of 3 years for Pre-KG, 4 years for LKG, 5 years for UKG, and 6 years for Class 1. However, many states do not comply with these stipulated minimum and maximum age limits, nor do they consistently observe the designated cutoff dates. The Central Government has established a uniform cutoff date of March 31 for the academic year in which admission is sought. In contrast, some states permit children as young as 2.5 years to enroll in Pre-KG, with a cutoff date of December 31 for the academic year. Therefore, it is essential to first verify the age regulations and cutoff dates specific to your state before proceeding with the admission process.
RTE Admission 2025-26 Important Registration Date Schedule
All prospective applicants should take note that the RTE Admission process for this academic year will commence earlier than in the previous year. Last year, the admission process faced delays due to the Lok Sabha elections and the associated code of conduct regulations, which assigned various duties to teachers and staff. However, this year, all State Governments are expected to be prepared to initiate the online admission process by the end of January or the first week of February. It is advisable to regularly check the official website of your respective RTE and adhere to the instructions provided in the notifications. In many states, applications can be submitted online or offline without any fees, while some states may charge a nominal amount. Therefore, do not miss the opportunity to secure free admission to your local private school.
